Resize an image to 2560×1440 pixels (QHD)
To resize an image to 2560×1440 px, enter 2560 × 1440 px and pick crop to fill so the 16:9 frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo loses 25% of its area (a centred 4032×2268 crop). The result has 3.69 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 1.16 MB at the panel's default quality 85 (897 KB at quality 75).

What 2560×1440 means in pixels
2560×1440 is a landscape frame, 1.78 times as wide as it is tall, 3,686,400 pixels in total (3.69 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 16:9 (1.7778 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 16:9 scales to it without distortion.
That is 30.2% of a 12 MP phone frame; after the crop to fill the phone picture is reduced by 0.635×, so fine detail such as hair and text survives. Shown 1:1 it fills 2560×1440 CSS px on a standard screen and 1280×720 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 35.6×20 inches.
Decoded for editing it occupies 14.1 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 10.5 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 2560×1440 from a phone, camera or screenshot
Filling 2560×1440 from a Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) loses nothing; a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the most (68.3%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 2560×1440.
| Starting image | Crop to fill keeps | Area lost | Scale | Fit inside gives |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) | 4032×2268 (top and bottom cut) | 25% | 0.635× (reduced) | 1920×1440 |
| 24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) | 6000×3375 (top and bottom cut) | 15.6% | 0.427× (reduced) | 2160×1440 |
| Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) | 1920×1080 (nothing cut) | 0% | 1.333× (enlarged) | 2560×1440 |
| Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) | 1080×608 (top and bottom cut) | 68.3% | 2.37× (enlarged) | 810×1440 |
When 2560×1440 means enlarging
After the crop to fill, the kept region has to be enlarged 1.333× from a Full HD screenshot and 2.37× from a vertical phone video frame. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so start from the largest original you have, or choose a smaller target if the destination allows it: 7×5 inch print or 2048×1080 (DCI 2K) would need less stretching.
How many KB is a 2560×1440 image?
Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 3,686,400 pixels. The outdoor photo at 2560×1440 is about 897 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 381 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

How to resize a picture to 2560×1440
-
Add the picture
Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.
-
Set the size
Enter 2560 as the width and 1440 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 2560×1440).
-
Choose how it fits
Choose crop to fill to keep the 16:9 frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 25%, top and bottom cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 1920×1440 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 2560×1440 canvas.
-
Pick the format and download
Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 1.16 MB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 2560x1440 file.

Frequently asked questions
How do I resize an image to 2560x1440?
Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 2560 × 1440 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that crops 25% (top and bottom cut) and scales the rest by 0.635×.
What aspect ratio is 2560x1440?
2560x1440 has an aspect ratio of 16:9: landscape, width ÷ height = 1.7778. Sizes with the same ratio include 1920×1080 (FHD), 3840×2160 (4K UHD) and 1600×900 (HD+).

For a detailed outdoor photo about 897 KB at quality 75 (683 KB at 60, 1.41 MB at 90, 1.16 MB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 299 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.
How does 2560x1440 look on a high-density screen?
On a 2× screen 2560x1440 is sharp when shown at 1280×720 CSS px; shown larger, the browser enlarges it. A slot of 2560×1440 CSS px on a 2× screen needs a 5120×2880 file.
