Resize an image to 2400×1600 pixels

To resize an image to 2400×1600 px, enter 2400 × 1600 px and pick crop to fill so the 3:2 frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo loses 11.1% of its area (a centred 4032×2688 crop). The result has 3.84 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 1.2 MB at the panel's default quality 85 (931 KB at quality 75).

What 2400×1600 means in pixels

2400×1600 is a landscape frame, 1.5 times as wide as it is tall, 3,840,000 pixels in total (3.84 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 3:2 (1.5 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 3:2 scales to it without distortion.

That is 31.5% of a 12 MP phone frame; after the crop to fill the phone picture is reduced by 0.595×, so fine detail such as hair and text survives. Shown 1:1 it fills 2400×1600 CSS px on a standard screen and 1200×800 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 33.3×22.2 inches.

Decoded for editing it occupies 14.6 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 11 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 2400×1600 from a phone, camera or screenshot

Filling 2400×1600 from a 24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) loses nothing; a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the most (62.5%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 2400×1600.

Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) 1080×720 (top and bottom cut) 62.5% 2.222× (enlarged) 900×1600

When 2400×1600 means enlarging

After the crop to fill, the kept region has to be enlarged 1.481× from a Full HD screenshot and 2.222× from a vertical phone video frame. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so start from the largest original you have, or choose a smaller target if the destination allows it: 7×5 inch print or 2560×1440 (QHD) would need less stretching.

How many KB is a 2400×1600 image?

Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 3,840,000 pixels. The outdoor photo at 2400×1600 is about 931 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 394 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

How to resize a picture to 2400×1600

  1. Add the picture

Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Set the size

Enter 2400 as the width and 1600 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 2400×1600).

  3. Choose how it fits

Choose crop to fill to keep the 3:2 frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 11.1%, top and bottom cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 2133×1600 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 2400×1600 canvas.

  4. Pick the format and download

Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 1.2 MB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 2400x1600 file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 2400x1600?

Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 2400 × 1600 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that crops 11.1% (top and bottom cut) and scales the rest by 0.595×.

What aspect ratio is 2400x1600?

2400x1600 has an aspect ratio of 3:2: landscape, width ÷ height = 1.5. Sizes with the same ratio include 3000×2000 landscape, 1500×1000 landscape and 1200×800 landscape.

Is 2400x1600 good for print?

At 300 DPI 2400x1600 prints 8×5.33 in (20.3×13.5 cm), enough for a print of that size at full density. At 150 DPI it stretches to 16×10.67 in.

How big is a 2400x1600 JPEG file?

For a detailed outdoor photo about 931 KB at quality 75 (709 KB at 60, 1.46 MB at 90, 1.2 MB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 310 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.

How does 2400x1600 look on a high-density screen?

On a 2× screen 2400x1600 is sharp when shown at 1200×800 CSS px; shown larger, the browser enlarges it. A slot of 2400×1600 CSS px on a 2× screen needs a 4800×3200 file.
