Resize an image to 1200×1500 pixels

To resize an image to 1200×1500 px, enter 1200 × 1500 px and pick crop to fill so the 4:5 frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo loses 40% of its area (a centred 2419×3024 crop). The result has 1.8 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 601 KB at the panel's default quality 85 (457 KB at quality 75).

What 1200×1500 means in pixels

1200×1500 is a portrait frame, 1.25 times as tall as it is wide, 1,800,000 pixels in total (1.8 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 4:5 (0.8 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 4:5 scales to it without distortion.

That is 14.8% of a 12 MP phone frame; after the crop to fill the phone picture is reduced by 0.496×, so fine detail such as hair and text survives. Shown 1:1 it fills 1200×1500 CSS px on a standard screen and 600×750 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 16.7×20.8 inches.

Decoded for editing it occupies 6.87 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 5.15 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 1200×1500 from a phone, camera or screenshot

Filling 1200×1500 from a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the least (29.7%); a Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) loses the most (55%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 1200×1500. From the phone photo PixelFit takes the 2419×3024 crop through 1209×1512 before the last step to 1200×1500, so each pass blends neighbouring pixels instead of skipping them.

12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) 2419×3024 (left and right cut) 40% 0.496× (reduced) 1200×900
24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) 3200×4000 (left and right cut) 46.7% 0.375× (reduced) 1200×800
Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) 864×1080 (left and right cut) 55% 1.389× (enlarged) 1200×675
Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) 1080×1350 (top and bottom cut) 29.7% 1.111× (enlarged) 844×1500

When 1200×1500 means enlarging

After the crop to fill, the kept region has to be enlarged 1.389× from a Full HD screenshot and 1.111× from a vertical phone video frame. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so start from the largest original you have, or choose a smaller target if the destination allows it: 1080×1440 portrait or 1000×1500 portrait would need less stretching.

How many KB is a 1200×1500 image?

Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 1,800,000 pixels. The outdoor photo at 1200×1500 is about 457 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 218 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

How to resize a picture to 1200×1500

  1. Add the picture

Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Set the size

Enter 1200 as the width and 1500 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 1200×1500).

  3. Choose how it fits

Choose crop to fill to keep the 4:5 frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 40%, left and right cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 1200×900 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 1200×1500 canvas.

  4. Pick the format and download

Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 601 KB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 1200x1500 file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 1200x1500?

Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 1200 × 1500 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that crops 40% (left and right cut) and scales the rest by 0.496×.

What aspect ratio is 1200x1500?

1200x1500 has an aspect ratio of 4:5: portrait, width ÷ height = 0.8. Sizes with the same ratio include 1080×1350 portrait, 600×750 px digital passport photo and 420×525 px photo.

Is 1200x1500 good for print?

At 300 DPI 1200x1500 prints 4×5 in (10.2×12.7 cm), enough for a print of that size at full density. At 150 DPI it stretches to 8×10 in.

How big is a 1200x1500 JPEG file?

For a detailed outdoor photo about 457 KB at quality 75 (345 KB at 60, 730 KB at 90, 601 KB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 161 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.

How does 1200x1500 look on a high-density screen?

On a 2× screen 1200x1500 is sharp when shown at 600×750 CSS px; shown larger, the browser enlarges it. A slot of 1200×1500 CSS px on a 2× screen needs a 2400×3000 file.
