Convert WebP to JPG free, without uploading
WebP to JPG gives you a file every form and app opens, but rarely a smaller one: our 1281×1600 px portrait went from 141 KB as WebP to 227 KB as JPG, both at quality 85 (+61%). Type a KB limit and PixelFit lowers the JPG quality to fit; transparent areas turn white. Nothing is uploaded.

No file-size limit is set: PixelFit saves at high quality and changes only the format and any pixel size you set.

What changes from WebP to JPG
All 4 points below lose or alter something on the way from WebP to JPG.
- Lost or changed: JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas of the WebP are filled with a background colour (white unless you pick another).
- Lost or changed: WebP can be animated; PixelFit writes a still JPG of the first frame only.
- Lost or changed: WebP can be lossy or lossless and most WebP files online are lossy, so saving one as JPG usually adds a second round of compression loss; keep quality high.
- Lost or changed: Metadata is not carried over: the WebP's EXIF, XMP and ICC chunks are dropped by the canvas, and EXIF orientation is applied to the pixels first so the photo stays upright.
Measured file size: WebP vs JPG
sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7, 31 October 2026, long edge 1600 px; JPG saved as quality 85, 4:2:0, white background, WebP as quality 85, alpha kept. The JPG column is the WebP file decoded and saved again, as PixelFit does.

What the numbers mean for WebP to JPG
Our portrait photo at 1281×1600 px: WebP 141 KB → JPG 227 KB (+61%, 1.6 times larger).
Our landscape photo at 1600×1200 px: WebP 587 KB → JPG 629 KB (+7%, 1.1 times larger).
Our scanned typed letter at 1273×1600 px: WebP 199 KB → JPG 296 KB (+49%, 1.5 times larger).
Our flat chart with a transparent background at 1600×1000 px: WebP 14.1 KB → JPG 43.7 KB (+210%, 3.1 times larger).
Per pixel, the portrait took 0.56 bits as WebP and 0.91 bits as JPG, a difference of 85.8 KB on 2,049,600 pixels.
Per pixel, the chart took 0.07 bits as WebP and 0.22 bits as JPG, a difference of 29.6 KB on 1,600,000 pixels.
JPG came out larger than WebP on all 4 samples, by +7% to +210%.
For graphics a 256-colour PNG beat the JPG: the chart was 12.5 KB as a palette PNG against 43.7 KB as a JPG, without blurred edges, so a WebP graphic may be better off as PNG.
How to convert WebP to JPG
-
Add the WebP file
Drop the .webp file on the tool at the top of this page, tap to choose it, or paste it.
-
Pick a background
Choose the colour that fills transparent areas of the WebP in the JPG; white is pre-selected because most forms and documents are white.
-
Keep JPG selected
JPG is pre-selected at quality 85. Type a maximum size in KB or exact pixel dimensions only if the destination sets them; PixelFit then searches the highest quality that fits and shrinks the pixel size only when quality alone is not enough. Our WebP test portrait came out at 227 KB as JPG with no limit set.
-
Download the JPG
Save the file ending in .jpg; its size in KB shows before you save.

When not to change WebP to JPG
- Do not change WebP to JPG to make a photo smaller: our portrait grew +61%, from 141 KB to 227 KB, with no gain in quality.
- If the transparent background of the WebP must stay (a logo over a coloured page, a sticker), keep the WebP or choose PNG instead of JPG.
- If you need the animation, keep the WebP: PixelFit writes a single still JPG frame.
Browser support for WebP and JPG (October 2026)
Reading WebP (.webp): Chrome 32+, Edge 18+, Firefox 65+, Safari 16+ (Safari 14-15 only on macOS 11 or later). caniuse puts WebP support at about 97.08% of browsers in use (data updated 29 October 2026).
Writing JPG from that WebP: Chrome 50+, Edge 79+, Firefox 18+, Safari 11+ (MDN compatibility data for canvas.toBlob, checked 31 October 2026).
WebP reached Safari later than Chrome and Firefox, so iPhones and Macs older than Safari 16 may not open it; current versions do.
Upload forms that ask for JPG
53 of the 61 application portals we checked accept JPG photos, 16 of them with a limit of 50 KB or less. A few of them, for this WebP file (verify with the official notice before you upload):
- Singapore ICA: JPG photo, up to 8 MB, 400 × 514 px (also takes HEIC, PNG).
- DU foreign students: JPG photo, up to 1 MB.
- US visa: JPG photo, up to 240 KB, 600–1200 × 600–1200 px.
- NHPC Trainee Engineer: JPG photo, up to 50 KB.
Where WebP files come from
WebP is what many websites serve, so images saved from a browser often arrive as .webp. Older photo editors, office documents and many upload forms still do not take it, which is the usual reason to change it to JPG.

Frequently asked questions
Can I convert WebP to JPG for free?
Yes. The WebP to JPG change runs free on your device, with no sign-up and no upload, one file or up to 25 at a time; Pro raises the batch to 500 with one ZIP download.
How do I convert WebP to JPG?
Drop the WebP on the tool above, keep JPG selected, pick a background colour for transparent areas, and download the .jpg file. Add a KB limit if the destination has one.
Does converting WebP to JPG reduce quality?
WebP can be lossy or lossless and most WebP files online are lossy, so saving one as JPG usually adds a second round of compression loss; keep quality high. In our test a 1281×1600 px portrait went from 141 KB as WebP to 227 KB as JPG (+61%).
Why is my JPG bigger than the WebP?
WebP compresses photos harder at the same quality setting. At quality 85 our test photos measured: portrait 141 KB as WebP against 227 KB as JPG, scanned letter 199 KB against 296 KB, landscape 587 KB against 629 KB. To keep the WebP's size, type it as the KB limit and PixelFit lowers the JPG quality until the file fits.
What happens to an animated or transparent WebP?
PixelFit writes the first frame of an animated WebP as a still JPG and fills transparent areas with the background colour you pick, white by default, because JPG stores neither animation nor transparency.
