Resize an image to 2000×2000 pixels

To resize an image to 2000×2000 px, enter 2000 × 2000 px and pick crop to fill so the 1:1 frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo loses 25% of its area (a centred 3024×3024 crop). The result has 4 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 1.25 MB at the panel's default quality 85 (966 KB at quality 75).

What 2000×2000 means in pixels

2000×2000 is a square, 2000 pixels on each side, 4,000,000 pixels in total (4 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 1:1 (1 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 1:1 scales to it without distortion.

That is 32.8% of a 12 MP phone frame; after the crop to fill the phone picture is reduced by 0.661×, so fine detail such as hair and text survives. Shown 1:1 it fills 2000×2000 CSS px on a standard screen and 1000×1000 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 27.8×27.8 inches.

Decoded for editing it occupies 15.3 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 11.4 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 2000×2000 from a phone, camera or screenshot

Filling 2000×2000 from a 12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) loses the least (25%); a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the most (43.8%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 2000×2000.

Starting imageCrop to fill keepsArea lostScaleFit inside gives
12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) 3024×3024 (left and right cut) 25% 0.661× (reduced) 2000×1500
24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) 4000×4000 (left and right cut) 33.3% 0.5× (reduced) 2000×1333
Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) 1080×1080 (left and right cut) 43.8% 1.852× (enlarged) 2000×1125
Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) 1080×1080 (top and bottom cut) 43.8% 1.852× (enlarged) 1125×2000

When 2000×2000 means enlarging

After the crop to fill, the kept region has to be enlarged 1.852× from a Full HD screenshot and 1.852× from a vertical phone video frame. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so start from the largest original you have, or choose a smaller target if the destination allows it: 2048×1536 (QXGA) or 2400×1600 landscape would need less stretching.

How many KB is a 2000×2000 image?

Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 4,000,000 pixels. The outdoor photo at 2000×2000 is about 966 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 407 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

How to resize a picture to 2000×2000

  1. Add the picture

Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Set the size

Enter 2000 as the width and 2000 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 2000×2000).

  3. Choose how it fits

Choose crop to fill to keep the 1:1 frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 25%, left and right cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 2000×1500 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 2000×2000 canvas.

  4. Pick the format and download

Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 1.25 MB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 2000x2000 file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 2000x2000?

Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 2000 × 2000 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that crops 25% (left and right cut) and scales the rest by 0.661×.

What aspect ratio is 2000x2000?

2000x2000 has an aspect ratio of 1:1: square, width ÷ height = 1. Sizes with the same ratio include 2048×2048 square, 1600×1600 square and 1500×1500 square.

Is 2000x2000 good for print?

At 300 DPI 2000x2000 prints 6.67×6.67 in (16.9×16.9 cm), enough for a print of that size at full density. At 150 DPI it stretches to 13.33×13.33 in.

How big is a 2000x2000 JPEG file?

For a detailed outdoor photo about 966 KB at quality 75 (736 KB at 60, 1.52 MB at 90, 1.25 MB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 322 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.

How does 2000x2000 look on a high-density screen?

On a 2× screen 2000x2000 is sharp when shown at 1000×1000 CSS px; shown larger, the browser enlarges it. A slot of 2000×2000 CSS px on a 2× screen needs a 4000×4000 file.
