Resize an image to 2048×1536 pixels (QXGA)

To resize an image to 2048×1536 px, enter 2048 × 1536 px and pick crop to fill so the 4:3 frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo already has this shape and is only scaled by 0.508×. The result has 3.15 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 1,024 KB at the panel's default quality 85 (777 KB at quality 75).

What 2048×1536 means in pixels

2048×1536 is a landscape frame, 1.33 times as wide as it is tall, 3,145,728 pixels in total (3.15 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 4:3 (1.3333 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 4:3 scales to it without distortion.

That is 25.8% of a 12 MP phone frame; after the crop to fill the phone picture is reduced by 0.508×, so fine detail such as hair and text survives. Shown 1:1 it fills 2048×1536 CSS px on a standard screen and 1024×768 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 28.4×21.3 inches.

Decoded for editing it occupies 12 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 9 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 2048×1536 from a phone, camera or screenshot

Filling 2048×1536 from a 12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) loses nothing; a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the most (57.8%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 2048×1536.

Starting imageCrop to fill keepsArea lostScaleFit inside gives
12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) 4032×3024 (nothing cut) 0% 0.508× (reduced) 2048×1536

Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) 1080×810 (top and bottom cut) 57.8% 1.896× (enlarged) 864×1536

When 2048×1536 means enlarging

After the crop to fill, the kept region has to be enlarged 1.422× from a Full HD screenshot and 1.896× from a vertical phone video frame. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so start from the largest original you have, or choose a smaller target if the destination allows it: 6×4 inch print or 1920×1200 (WUXGA) would need less stretching.

How many KB is a 2048×1536 image?

Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 3,145,728 pixels. The outdoor photo at 2048×1536 is about 777 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 336 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

How to resize a picture to 2048×1536

  1. Add the picture

Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Set the size

Enter 2048 as the width and 1536 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 2048×1536).

  3. Choose how it fits

Choose crop to fill: a 4:3 phone photo already matches, so nothing is cut.

  4. Pick the format and download

Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 1,024 KB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 2048x1536 file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 2048x1536?

Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 2048 × 1536 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that only scales the picture and scales the rest by 0.508×.

What aspect ratio is 2048x1536?

2048x1536 has an aspect ratio of 4:3: landscape, width ÷ height = 1.3333. Sizes with the same ratio include 1600×1200 (UXGA), 1280×960 landscape and 1200×900 landscape.

Is 2048x1536 good for print?

At 300 DPI 2048x1536 prints 6.83×5.12 in (17.3×13 cm), enough for a print of that size at full density. At 150 DPI it stretches to 13.65×10.24 in.

How big is a 2048x1536 JPEG file?

For a detailed outdoor photo about 777 KB at quality 75 (590 KB at 60, 1.22 MB at 90, 1,024 KB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 259 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.

How does 2048x1536 look on a high-density screen?

On a 2× screen 2048x1536 is sharp when shown at 1024×768 CSS px; shown larger, the browser enlarges it. A slot of 2048×1536 CSS px on a 2× screen needs a 4096×3072 file.
