Resize an image to 1080×1920 pixels

To resize an image to 1080×1920 px, enter 1080 × 1920 px and pick crop to fill so the 9:16 frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo loses 57.8% of its area (a centred 1701×3024 crop). The result has 2.07 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 689 KB at the panel's default quality 85 (524 KB at quality 75).

What 1080×1920 means in pixels

1080×1920 is a portrait frame, 1.78 times as tall as it is wide, 2,073,600 pixels in total (2.07 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 9:16 (0.5625 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 9:16 scales to it without distortion.

That is 17% of a 12 MP phone frame; after the crop to fill the phone picture is reduced by 0.635×, so fine detail such as hair and text survives. Shown 1:1 it fills 1080×1920 CSS px on a standard screen and 540×960 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 15×26.7 inches.

Decoded for editing it occupies 7.91 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 5.93 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 1080×1920 from a phone, camera or screenshot

Filling 1080×1920 from a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses nothing; a Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) loses the most (68.3%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 1080×1920.

12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) 1701×3024 (left and right cut) 57.8% 0.635× (reduced) 1080×810
24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) 2250×4000 (left and right cut) 62.5% 0.48× (reduced) 1080×720
Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) 608×1080 (left and right cut) 68.3% 1.776× (enlarged) 1080×608

When 1080×1920 means enlarging

After the crop to fill, the kept region has to be enlarged 1.776× from a Full HD screenshot. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so start from the largest original you have, or choose a smaller target if the destination allows it: 3×5 inch print or 1200×1600 portrait would need less stretching.

How many KB is a 1080×1920 image?

Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 2,073,600 pixels. The outdoor photo at 1080×1920 is about 524 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 243 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

How to resize a picture to 1080×1920

  1. Add the picture

Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Set the size

Enter 1080 as the width and 1920 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 1080×1920).

  3. Choose how it fits

Choose crop to fill to keep the 9:16 frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 57.8%, left and right cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 1080×810 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 1080×1920 canvas.

  4. Pick the format and download

Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 689 KB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 1080x1920 file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 1080x1920?

Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 1080 × 1920 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that crops 57.8% (left and right cut) and scales the rest by 0.635×.

What aspect ratio is 1080x1920?

1080x1920 has an aspect ratio of 9:16: portrait, width ÷ height = 0.5625. Sizes with the same ratio include 720×1280 vertical HD and 2160×3840 vertical 4K.

Is 1080x1920 good for print?

At 300 DPI 1080x1920 prints 3.6×6.4 in (9.1×16.3 cm), enough for a print of that size at full density. At 150 DPI it stretches to 7.2×12.8 in.

How big is a 1080x1920 JPEG file?

For a detailed outdoor photo about 524 KB at quality 75 (396 KB at 60, 837 KB at 90, 689 KB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 181 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.

How does 1080x1920 look on a high-density screen?

On a 2× screen 1080x1920 is sharp when shown at 540×960 CSS px; shown larger, the browser enlarges it. A slot of 1080×1920 CSS px on a 2× screen needs a 2160×3840 file.
