Resize an image to 2048×1080 pixels (DCI 2K)

To resize an image to 2048×1080 px, enter 2048 × 1080 px and pick crop to fill so the 256:135 (about 1.91:1) frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo loses 29.7% of its area (a centred 4032×2126 crop). The result has 2.21 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 733 KB at the panel's default quality 85 (557 KB at quality 75).

What 2048×1080 means in pixels

2048×1080 is a landscape frame, 1.9 times as wide as it is tall, 2,211,840 pixels in total (2.21 megapixels). Its sides only reduce to 256:135; that is 0.7% away from the familiar 1.91:1 shape, so a 1.91:1 crop needs only a sliver trimmed to land on exactly 2048×1080.

That is 18.1% of a 12 MP phone frame; after the crop to fill the phone picture is reduced by 0.508×, so fine detail such as hair and text survives. Shown 1:1 it fills 2048×1080 CSS px on a standard screen and 1024×540 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 28.4×15 inches.

Decoded for editing it occupies 8.44 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 6.33 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 2048×1080 from a phone, camera or screenshot

Filling 2048×1080 from a Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) loses the least (6.2%); a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the most (70.3%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 2048×1080.

12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) 4032×2126 (top and bottom cut) 29.7% 0.508× (reduced) 1440×1080

Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) 1920×1013 (top and bottom cut) 6.2% 1.067× (enlarged) 1920×1080
Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) 1080×570 (top and bottom cut) 70.3% 1.896× (enlarged) 608×1080

When 2048×1080 means enlarging

After the crop to fill, the kept region has to be enlarged 1.067× from a Full HD screenshot and 1.896× from a vertical phone video frame. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so start from the largest original you have, or choose a smaller target if the destination allows it: 1920×1080 (FHD) or 2000×1000 landscape would need less stretching.

How many KB is a 2048×1080 image?

Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 2,211,840 pixels. The outdoor photo at 2048×1080 is about 557 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 255 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

How to resize a picture to 2048×1080

  1. Add the picture

Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Set the size

Enter 2048 as the width and 1080 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 2048×1080).

  3. Choose how it fits

Choose crop to fill to keep the 256:135 (about 1.91:1) frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 29.7%, top and bottom cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 1440×1080 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 2048×1080 canvas.

  4. Pick the format and download

Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 733 KB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 2048x1080 file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 2048x1080?

Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 2048 × 1080 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that crops 29.7% (top and bottom cut) and scales the rest by 0.508×.

What aspect ratio is 2048x1080?

2048x1080 has an aspect ratio of 256:135 (about 1.91:1): landscape, width ÷ height = 1.8963. Sizes with the same ratio include 4096×2160 (DCI 4K).

Is 2048x1080 good for print?

At 300 DPI 2048x1080 prints 6.83×3.6 in (17.3×9.1 cm), enough for a print of that size at full density. At 150 DPI it stretches to 13.65×7.2 in.

How big is a 2048x1080 JPEG file?

For a detailed outdoor photo about 557 KB at quality 75 (421 KB at 60, 890 KB at 90, 733 KB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 191 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.

How does 2048x1080 look on a high-density screen?

On a 2× screen 2048x1080 is sharp when shown at 1024×540 CSS px; shown larger, the browser enlarges it. A slot of 2048×1080 CSS px on a 2× screen needs a 4096×2160 file.
