Resize an image to 2560×1600 pixels (WQXGA)

To resize an image to 2560×1600 px, enter 2560 × 1600 px and pick crop to fill so the 8:5 frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo loses 16.7% of its area (a centred 4032×2520 crop). The result has 4.1 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 1.27 MB at the panel's default quality 85 (987 KB at quality 75).

What 2560×1600 means in pixels

2560×1600 is a landscape frame, 1.6 times as wide as it is tall, 4,096,000 pixels in total (4.1 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 8:5 (1.6 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 8:5 scales to it without distortion.

That is 33.6% of a 12 MP phone frame; after the crop to fill the phone picture is reduced by 0.635×, so fine detail such as hair and text survives. Shown 1:1 it fills 2560×1600 CSS px on a standard screen and 1280×800 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 35.6×22.2 inches.

Decoded for editing it occupies 15.6 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 11.7 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 2560×1600 from a phone, camera or screenshot

Filling 2560×1600 from a 24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) loses the least (6.3%); a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the most (64.8%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 2560×1600.

24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) 6000×3750 (top and bottom cut) 6.3% 0.427× (reduced) 2400×1600
Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) 1728×1080 (left and right cut) 10% 1.481× (enlarged) 2560×1440
Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) 1080×675 (top and bottom cut) 64.8% 2.37× (enlarged) 900×1600

When 2560×1600 means enlarging

After the crop to fill, the kept region has to be enlarged 1.481× from a Full HD screenshot and 2.37× from a vertical phone video frame. Enlarging adds pixels but no detail, so start from the largest original you have, or choose a smaller target if the destination allows it: 2400×1600 landscape or 2560×1440 (QHD) would need less stretching.

How many KB is a 2560×1600 image?

Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 4,096,000 pixels. The outdoor photo at 2560×1600 is about 987 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 415 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

How to resize a picture to 2560×1600

  1. Add the picture

Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Set the size

Enter 2560 as the width and 1600 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 2560×1600).

  3. Choose how it fits

Choose crop to fill to keep the 8:5 frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 16.7%, top and bottom cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 2133×1600 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 2560×1600 canvas.

  4. Pick the format and download

Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 1.27 MB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 2560x1600 file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 2560x1600?

Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 2560 × 1600 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that crops 16.7% (top and bottom cut) and scales the rest by 0.635×.

What aspect ratio is 2560x1600?

2560x1600 has an aspect ratio of 8:5: landscape, width ÷ height = 1.6. Sizes with the same ratio include 1920×1200 (WUXGA), 1680×1050 (WSXGA+) and 1440×900.

Is 2560x1600 good for print?

At 300 DPI 2560x1600 prints 8.53×5.33 in (21.7×13.5 cm), enough for a print of that size at full density. At 150 DPI it stretches to 17.07×10.67 in.

How big is a 2560x1600 JPEG file?

For a detailed outdoor photo about 987 KB at quality 75 (752 KB at 60, 1.55 MB at 90, 1.27 MB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 329 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.

How does 2560x1600 look on a high-density screen?

On a 2× screen 2560x1600 is sharp when shown at 1280×800 CSS px; shown larger, the browser enlarges it. A slot of 2560×1600 CSS px on a 2× screen needs a 5120×3200 file.
