Convert ICO to JPG free, without uploading
ICO to JPG turns an ICO of up to 256×256 pixels into an ordinary JPG you can edit or upload. Transparent areas become white, or a colour you pick, because JPG has no transparency. Drop the ICO (.ico) on the tool below and download the JPG; nothing is uploaded.

JPG · no file-size limit · original pixel size · white background
No file-size limit is set: PixelFit saves at high quality and changes only the format and any pixel size you set.

What changes from ICO to JPG
All 4 points below lose or alter something on the way from ICO to JPG.
- Lost or changed: JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas of the ICO are filled with a background colour (white unless you pick another).
- Lost or changed: JPG is lossy: the exact pixels of the ICO are approximated, which is invisible on photos at high quality but can blur sharp text and edges.
- Lost or changed: An ICO file can hold several icon sizes (16 to 256 pixels); the browser decodes one of them and PixelFit converts that one.
- Lost or changed: Metadata is not carried over: the ICO's icon directory entries are dropped by the canvas.

| flat chart with a transparent background (1600×1000 px) | 39.6 KB (40,504 bytes) | quality 85, 4:2:0, white background |
| flat chart with a transparent background (1600×1000 px) | 32.4 KB (33,191 bytes) | quality 70, 4:2:0, white background |
What the numbers mean for ICO to JPG
An icon is at most 256×256 pixels, which is 262,144 bytes (256 KB) of raw 32-bit pixels before compression, so the JPG of an icon stays small whatever the settings; the chart rows show how JPG behaves on flat colours at a larger size.
How to convert ICO to JPG
-
Add the ICO file
Drop the .ico file on the tool at the top of this page, tap to choose it, or paste it.
-
Pick a background
Choose the colour that fills transparent areas of the ICO in the JPG; white is pre-selected because most forms and documents are white.
-
Keep JPG selected
JPG is pre-selected at quality 85. Type a maximum size in KB or exact pixel dimensions only if the destination sets them; PixelFit then searches the highest quality that fits and shrinks the pixel size only when quality alone is not enough.
-
Download the JPG
Save the file ending in .jpg; its size in KB shows before you save.

When not to change ICO to JPG
- Avoid JPG for screenshots, text, signatures and logos when the destination accepts PNG: JPEG compression softens hard edges.
- If the transparent background of the ICO must stay (a logo over a coloured page, a sticker), choose PNG or WebP instead of JPG.
- If the destination already accepts ICO, upload the original: every change of format re-encodes the pixels.
Browser support for ICO and JPG (October 2026)
Reading ICO (.ico): Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (every current browser).
Writing JPG from that ICO: Chrome 50+, Edge 79+, Firefox 18+, Safari 11+ (MDN compatibility data for canvas.toBlob, checked 31 October 2026).
Upload forms that ask for JPG
53 of the 61 application portals we checked accept JPG photos, 16 of them with a limit of 50 KB or less. A few of them, for this ICO file (verify with the official notice before you upload):
- Pakistan passport: JPG photo, up to 3 MB, 350 × 467 px.
- NIC Scientist-B: JPG photo, 50–200 KB.
- BHU recruitment: JPG photo, up to 50 KB.
- DV lottery: JPG photo, up to 240 KB, 600 × 600 px.
Where ICO files come from
ICO files are icons, mostly website favicons (favicon.ico) and Windows program icons, at most 256×256 pixels. Changing one to JPG gives an image you can edit, paste into a document or upload.

Frequently asked questions
Can I convert ICO to JPG for free?
Yes. The ICO to JPG change runs free on your device, with no sign-up and no upload, one file or up to 25 at a time; Pro raises the batch to 500 with one ZIP download.
How do I convert ICO to JPG?
Drop the ICO on the tool above, keep JPG selected, pick a background colour for transparent areas, and download the .jpg file. Add a KB limit if the destination has one.
Does converting ICO to JPG reduce quality?
JPG is lossy: the exact pixels of the ICO are approximated, which is invisible on photos at high quality but can blur sharp text and edges.
Why convert ICO to JPG?
JPG suits photos for upload forms, e-mail and the web; ICO is a poor fit for anything bigger than 256 pixels.
What happens to the transparent background of an ICO?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels of the ICO are filled with the background colour you pick, white by default. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
