Resize an image to 800×480 pixels (WVGA)
To resize an image to 800×480 px, enter 800 × 480 px and pick crop to fill so the 5:3 frame is not stretched: a 4:3 phone photo loses 20% of its area (a centred 4032×2419 crop). The result has 0.38 megapixels; as a JPEG, a detailed outdoor photo is about 129 KB at the panel's default quality 85 (97.1 KB at quality 75).

What 800×480 means in pixels
800×480 is a landscape frame, 1.67 times as wide as it is tall, 384,000 pixels in total (0.38 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 5:3 (1.6667 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 5:3 scales to it without distortion.
A 12 MP phone photo has 32 times as many pixels, so reaching 800×480 is a clean reduction with no invented detail. Shown 1:1 it fills 800×480 CSS px on a standard screen and 400×240 CSS px on a 2× (Retina-class) screen; at 72 DPI the same pixels span 11.1×6.7 inches.
Decoded for editing it occupies 1.46 MB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 1.1 MB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 800×480 from a phone, camera or screenshot
Filling 800×480 from a Full HD screenshot (1920×1080, 16:9) loses the least (6.3%); a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the most (66.3%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 800×480. From the phone photo PixelFit takes the 4032×2419 crop through 2016×1209 and 1008×604 before the last step to 800×480, so each pass blends neighbouring pixels instead of skipping them.
| Starting image | Crop to fill keeps | Area lost | Scale | Fit inside gives |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) | 4032×2419 (top and bottom cut) | 20% | 0.198× (reduced) | 640×480 |
| 24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) | 6000×3600 (top and bottom cut) | 10% | 0.133× (reduced) | 720×480 |

| Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) | 1080×648 (top and bottom cut) | 66.3% | 0.741× (reduced) | 270×480 |

How to resize a picture to 800×480
-
Add the picture
Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.
-
Set the size
Enter 800 as the width and 480 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 800×480).
-
Choose how it fits
Choose crop to fill to keep the 5:3 frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 20%, top and bottom cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 640×480 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 800×480 canvas.
-
Pick the format and download
Choose JPG or WebP; without a KB limit PixelFit saves JPG at quality 85, about 129 KB for a detailed outdoor photo. Add a KB limit if the upload has one or the file should be smaller, then download the 800x480 file.

Frequently asked questions
How do I resize an image to 800x480?
Open the image in the PixelFit panel on this page, set 800 × 480 px, choose crop to fill so nothing is stretched and download. From a 12 MP phone photo that crops 20% (top and bottom cut) and scales the rest by 0.198×.
What aspect ratio is 800x480?
800x480 has an aspect ratio of 5:3: landscape, width ÷ height = 1.6667. No other common target has exactly this ratio; the closest familiar shape is 16:10, 4.2% away.
