Resize an image to 152×152 pixels
To resize an image to 152×152 px, enter 152 × 152 px and save it as PNG. Shown at 152 CSS px it is sharp on a 1× screen; a 2× screen needs 304×304 px for the same spot. Cropping a 4:3 photo to fill the 1:1 square removes 25%.

What 152×152 means in pixels
152×152 is a square, 152 pixels on each side, 23,104 pixels in total (0.0231 megapixels). Its sides reduce to 1:1 (1 as a decimal), so any picture cropped to 1:1 scales to it without distortion.
It is thumbnail scale: a 12 MP phone photo carries 528 times more pixels, so the resize discards most of them and the stepped downscale matters for sharpness. On a 2× (high-density) screen this file is sharp at 76 CSS px, on a 3× phone at 51 CSS px; a print at 300 DPI would be only 12.9 mm wide, so it is a screen-only size.
Decoded for editing it occupies 90.3 KB of memory (4 bytes per pixel); uncompressed 24-bit RGB would be 67.7 KB, which is why the downloadable JPEG, PNG or WebP is far smaller.

Getting 152×152 from a phone, camera or screenshot
Filling 152×152 from a 12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) loses the least (25%); a vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) loses the most (43.8%). "Fit inside" keeps the whole picture instead and the file comes out at the size in the last column; "Pad with colour" adds bars to reach the full 152×152. From the phone photo PixelFit takes the 3024×3024 crop through 1512×1512, 756×756, 378×378 and 189×189 before the last step to 152×152, so each pass blends neighbouring pixels instead of skipping them.
| Starting image | Crop to fill keeps | Area lost | Scale | Fit inside gives |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12 MP phone photo (4032×3024, 4:3) | 3024×3024 (left and right cut) | 25% | 0.05× (reduced) | 152×114 |
| 24 MP camera photo (6000×4000, 3:2) | 4000×4000 (left and right cut) | 33.3% | 0.038× (reduced) | 152×101 |

| Vertical phone video frame (1080×1920, 9:16) | 1080×1080 (top and bottom cut) | 43.8% | 0.141× (reduced) | 86×152 |
How many KB is a 152×152 image?
Estimated from encodes of real sample images measured with sharp 0.35.5 / libvips 8.18.7 on 31 October 2026, interpolated to 23,104 pixels. The outdoor photo at 152×152 is about 6.5 KB at quality 75 and a scanned page about 4.1 KB; your file will differ with detail and noise.

152×152 on high-density screens
A screen with a device pixel ratio of 2 draws every CSS pixel with 2×2 device pixels, so an icon shown at 152 CSS px needs a file of 304×304 there.
| Device pixel ratio | 152×152 is sharp up to | File needed for a 152 CSS px slot |
|---|---|---|
| 1× | 152×152 CSS px | 152×152 px |
| 1.5× | 101.3×101.3 CSS px | 228×228 px |
| 2× | 76×76 CSS px | 304×304 px |
| 3× | 50.7×50.7 CSS px | 456×456 px |
| 4× | 38×38 CSS px | 608×608 px |
Shrinking a master icon to 152×152
Icons are best drawn large and reduced. PixelFit halves the master while both sides stay at or above 152 px, then makes one last step to 152×152; each pass blends neighbouring pixels, which keeps thin strokes from breaking up.
| Master | Reduction | Passes PixelFit runs |
|---|---|---|
| 1024×1024 | 0.15× (6.7 times smaller) | 3: 512×512 → 256×256 → 152×152 |
| 512×512 | 0.3× (3.4 times smaller) | 2: 256×256 → 152×152 |
| 256×256 | 0.59× (1.7 times smaller) | 1: 152×152 |
Making a 152×152 icon
From a 512×512 master icon the reduction is 0.3×, small enough that the artwork usually survives without redrawing. Save icons as PNG to keep transparency and crisp edges; a flat graphic at 152×152 is about 5.9 KB as PNG, against 6.5 KB for a detailed outdoor photo as JPEG at quality 75.
A 152×152 icon is 3.2 times the 48 px edge that Google Search recommends exceeding for favicons, so it can double as the high-resolution favicon.
Other 1:1 sizes
These targets share the exact 1:1 ratio of 152×152, so resizing between them is a pure scale with nothing cropped.

How to resize a picture to 152×152
-
Add the picture
Drop, paste or pick the photo in the PixelFit panel at the top of this page; it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.
-
Set the size
Enter 152 as the width and 152 as the height in pixels (the panel is already set to 152×152).
-
Choose how it fits
Choose crop to fill to keep the 1:1 frame without stretching (a phone photo loses 25%, left and right cut). Fit inside keeps the whole picture as a 152×114 file instead; Pad with colour puts that on a full 152×152 canvas.
-
Pick the format and download
Choose PNG for an icon, then download the 152x152 file.

Which other icon sizes go with 152x152?
For a 152 CSS px slot, a 2× screen needs 304×304 and a 3× phone 456×456. 152x152 is already above the 48×48 px that Google Search recommends exceeding for favicons.
How big is a 152x152 JPEG file?
For a detailed outdoor photo about 6.5 KB at quality 75 (5 KB at 60, 10.5 KB at 90, 8.6 KB at the panel's default quality 85); a head-and-shoulders portrait is about 6.2 KB at quality 75, estimated from measured encodes. A flat graphic is smaller, a noisy low-light photo larger.
