What changes from SVG to PNG
3 of these 5 points lose or alter something on the way from SVG to PNG; the rest carry over.
- Lost or changed: SVG is vector art; PNG stores pixels, so the drawing is rasterised once at the pixel size you choose and stops scaling cleanly.
- Kept: Transparency survives: PNG keeps the alpha channel of the SVG.
- Lost or changed: An SVG can be animated with CSS or SMIL; PixelFit draws a still PNG of the picture as it first appears.
- Kept: PNG stores every rendered pixel exactly, so nothing is lost beyond the rasterising itself.
- Lost or changed: Metadata is not carried over: the SVG's XML title and metadata elements are dropped by the canvas.

How to convert SVG to PNG
-
Add the SVG file
Drop the .svg file on the tool at the top of this page, tap to choose it, or paste it.
-
Set the pixel size
Type the width in pixels for the PNG (and a height if you need an exact box): the SVG is redrawn from its shapes at that size, so pick the largest size you will need. Without a size, PixelFit draws it at the width and height written in the file, enlarged to 1,024 pixels on the long edge when the file states something smaller.
-
Keep PNG selected
PNG is pre-selected and saved in full colour. Type a maximum size in KB only if the destination sets one; PixelFit then tries fewer colours (a palette PNG) and, if that is not enough, fewer pixels.
-
Download the PNG
Save the file ending in .png; its size in KB shows before you save.

When not to change SVG to PNG
- Keep the SVG for websites, print and anything resized later; make a PNG only for the app or form that needs pixels.
- If the destination already accepts SVG, upload the original: every change of format re-encodes the pixels.
Browser support for SVG and PNG (October 2026)
Reading SVG (.svg): Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (as an image). caniuse puts SVG support at about 97.48% of browsers in use (data updated 29 October 2026).
Writing PNG from that SVG: Chrome 50+, Edge 79+, Firefox 18+, Safari 11+ (MDN compatibility data for canvas.toBlob, checked 31 October 2026).
Upload forms that ask for PNG
10 of the 61 application portals we checked accept PNG photos, 1 of them with a limit of 50 KB or less. A few of them, for this SVG file (verify with the official notice before you upload):
- ICSI student: PNG photo, 20–50 KB (also takes JPG, GIF, BMP, PDF).
- Indonesia e-Visa: PNG photo, up to 2 MB, 400 × 600 px (also takes JPG).
- Bangladesh Freelancer ID: PNG photo, up to 500 KB, 300 × 300 px (also takes JPG).
- Japan eVISA: PNG photo, up to 2 MB (also takes JPG, GIF, BMP, HEIC).
Where SVG files come from
SVG is a vector format: shapes and paths described in XML, not pixels. Logos and icons are often delivered as SVG, but chat apps, social sites, office tools and forms want a pixel image such as PNG.
An SVG may state a width and height, but it can be drawn at any size, so the output width is your choice; for a crisp result pick at least the size it will be displayed at, or twice that for high-density screens.

Frequently asked questions
Can I convert SVG to PNG for free?
Yes. The SVG to PNG change runs free on your device, with no sign-up and no upload, one file or up to 25 at a time; Pro raises the batch to 500 with one ZIP download.
How do I convert SVG to PNG?
Drop the SVG on the tool above, keep PNG selected, set the pixel size, and download the .png file. Add a KB limit if the destination has one.
Does converting SVG to PNG reduce quality?
PNG stores every rendered pixel exactly, so nothing is lost beyond the rasterising itself. In our test a 1600×1000 px chart went from 0.87 KB as SVG to 39.7 KB as PNG.
Why convert SVG to PNG?
PNG suits screenshots, logos, signatures on white and images with transparency; SVG is a poor fit for forms, chat apps and social sites that only take pixel images.
